Sommelier (H/F)

Join our team in Funktionærmessen Restaurant on Svalbard. Enjoy a culinary journey of delicious food and drinks, while admiring the stunning view over Longyearbyen. The kitchen presents intriguing flavour combinations inspired by an international cuisine from our à la carte menu and our signature dishes: King crab and dry-aged Côte de Bœuf.

The restaurant was originally the dining hall for the sophisticated officials of the coal mining company. Today it is a favorite among many locals, and an attractive place for visitors.

Our wine cellar also holds a wonderful collection of vintage wines. The wine list rises to all occasions and contains many different wines from a broad selection of producers with one of the best selection of champagne in the Nordic countries.

We take pride in our work and are seeking the right individual. You have a strong passion for your craft, minimum 3 years of experience and master the basics. In addition, you view your role as an integral and important part of the team and appreciate what it takes to create extraordinary culinary experiences.

DESCRIPTION OF THE JOB

The Sommelier is a wine expert who curates the wine lists, recommends food and wine pairings, and advises guests on wine selections based on their preferences and food choices. He/she possess extensive knowledge of wines, vineyards, and the winemaking process.
He/she also manages the wine and champagne cellars, and conducts wine tastings.
The Sommelier conveys the image of the restaurant through their exemplary attitude, warm and friendly welcome, professionalism, and knowledge.

PROFILE REQUIRED

▪ Certification as a Sommelier.
▪ In-depth knowledge of the rules and techniques of fine dining service.
▪ Good interpersonal skills and a perfect mastery of customer relationship codes to meet guests' high expectations..
▪ A mastery of subtle taste and smell are the first qualities to possess to develop skills in wine knowledge and quality discernment.
▪ Curiosity and open-mindedness are necessary to follow developments in the establishment's cuisine and discover new trends beyond the "great classics".
▪ Pedagogy: the sommelier must have a taste for sharing their knowledge.
▪ Good memory: the sommelier must have in their memory all the wines on the list.
▪ The practice of English or more foreign languages is recommended to advise clients.
